Interactive Installations
L'altro - The Alien and the Mirror - (in progress) M. Annunziato Interactive installation with a digital mirror (videocamera + retro-projected screen mirror-shaped) reflecting the face of the visitor standing in front of the mirror. The image is focussed when the visitor stand up to observe the mirror and disappear when the visitor moves. The artwork pushes the perception of the own image as the other himself through slowly minimal graphical and sound effects and subliminal stimulus with particularly incisive images (1/30 sec). The doubt increases in the visitor who is pushed to perceive the distance between himself and the other . This is the distance between the real image that the people transmits to the others and the interior image with which he represent himself |

Swarm (in progress) M. Annunziato Interactive installation showing the motion of a swarm of agents over a 2D or 3D lattice. The project is focussed on the connections dynamically created by the agents with their neighbours in a game of attraction, separation, alignment, obstacle avoidance and sound production. The local interaction create a global swarm behaviour without any high level leader or programming. The network characteristics evolve in relation to specific necessities like the energy (fast motion of the visitor = fear for the agents) and obstacles inserted by the visitors who interact with the body and gestures disarticulating or promoting connective configurations. |

E-Sparks ('01-'06) M. Annunziato, P. Pierucci The goal of this project is an audio-visual interactive installation to explore the creative content and suggestions that the artificial life (alife) environments have in their potentialities. The suggestion we want to communicate is the evocation of an artificial society able to self-develop in the time and interact with the humans. The basic idea is a vision of future digital worlds as a way to better explore the mechanisms which are on the base of the formation of our societies, languages, psyche. After some exhitionsand interaction with many visitors the creatures are progressively becoming more "internal" inside the visitor itself... |

Sensitive Painting ('02) M. Annunziato, I. Tirelli, P. Pierucci Sensitive Painting is an interactive installation where a projector linked to a computer, casts images on a large size picture representing the eternal flux between Eros and Thanatos. The images projected on the painting consist of the internal layers of the painting memorized in the computer. Before the projection, the images are modified in terms of saturation, hue, color inversion and other color contrast models in relation to the people interaction. The perceptive results depends on the composition of the projected image, and the reflection on the physical matter of the real painting. In front of the painting the visitors can interact on a "sensitive woman surface". Moving their hands on the 3D surface the people induce a reaction from the painting taht reacts modifying the perceptive variables and modulating a sound flux that appears to be produced by the painting itself. The installation has been exibhited in the Digital Art Gallery, Brunei Museum, London '02, High Tech Museum, fortezza da Basso, Florence '02. |

Aurora di Venere ('01) M. Annunziato, I. Tirelli, P. Pierucci "Aurora di Venere" is a performance for theatre where a group of dancers interact with digital entities projected on two screens located at the background and at the front (semi-transparent) of the theatre's stand. The dancers play with the images of the artificial individuals which move on the screen following own personality. The digital entities are represented with 3D living shape. They can reproduce and are equipped with a neural network for self-learning and decision taking. Reflecting the movements of the dancers, the digital beings dance approaching the dancers or escape from they. The story grows in intensity during its development and the artificial beings escape from the screens invading the public and the theatre ceiling. They search for the public movements and produce 3D sounds travelling in the theatre. At the end the whole internal pseudo-spherical surface of the theatre is invaded by digital beings. The installation has been exibhited in the Theatre of the "Palais de San Vincent", San Vincent, Italy, March 2001. |

Relazioni Emergenti ('00) M. Annunziato, P. Pierucci It is an environment of artificial life where the individuals, represented by graphics filaments, are endowed with own intelligence and character. They can reproduce, evolve and interact with real people. The observers can interact with the artwork itself transmitting "energy and life" to the living filaments which start to compose music related to their genetic structure. The installation has been exibhited in the main international festival on electronic emergent art (Imagina '00 Monaco; Siggraph '00 New Orleans; Opera Totale '99, Venice , Monumedia '00, Naples, Virtuality '00 Turin, Cinema '99, Sorrento, Generative Art '99, Milan. |

Vid-A-Feeba ('99) M. Annunziato, P. Pierucci An interactive play with a chaotic process. The images follow the iterated evolution typical of chaotic systems showing quick change in the visual and sound patterns. The movement of the visitors inserts disturbances that move the system toward the edge of chaos where new creative patterns emerge and the artwork re-creates itself. |

Stanze ('97) M. Annunziato, P. Pierucci, O. Gemma de Julio An interactive installation where the observer is projected in the artist rooms like in a virtual set. He can navigate through the rooms and their symbols producing music with the movements of his body. The natural gesture is embodied in musical and visual effects, so the visitor tends to losses the consciousness to drive the installation itself. |
